Texture and its relation to Movement- Deguste

This work highlights the forgotten relationship between the structure and texture of an object and how this object interacts with the world. In the moment of an object's destruction or alteration, the object reacts, placing pressure on its various parts and returning this influence to the world around it. It's fascinating to observe from up close the deformation of objects as they interact. Fire and Metal, Blade and Flesh, Food and Digestive Acid.

This work is done by Insolence Production, an art collective out of Paris, France. They aim to explore a wide variety of works in their films and videos. THey describe themselves as atypical for their broad range of interests. Their goal is to wholly explore an entire universe and capture new visions of reality through their work. Their interest in the capture of experience is highlighted in the video "Tous les Hommes S'Appelent Robert." (to the right-->)
In this movie a human (Robert) is cast in place of a deer running from a hunter. The hunters likewise transformed into anamorphic humanoid deer.
He does not rise in piteous haste
To put on convict-clothes,
While some coarse-mouthed
Doctor gloats, and notes
Each new and nerve-twitched pose,
Fingering a watch whose little ticks
Are like horrible hammer-blows.

I loved you, so I drew these tides of
Men into my hands
And wrote my will across the
Sky in stars
To earn you freedom, the seven
Pillared worthy house,
That your eyes might be
Shining for me
When I came

Hopefully, progress ahead///.
Batter my heart, three-person'd God, for you
As yet but knock, breathe, shine, and seek to mend;
That I may rise and stand, o'erthrow me, and bend
Your force to break, blow, burn, and make me new.

Cairokee- Ma A'ad Sagheran (No Longer Young)-->

This Egyptian band rose to fame in the turmoil of the Egyptian revolution in 2011. The atmosphere resulted in broad questioning of social institutions. Markedly this band broke the barriers of religious conservatism in Egyptian media making music which spoke not singularly of secular or religious topics but how they interact.

"No Longer Young" is a Son's letter to his mother, explaining his confusion in regards to his religious convictions. The use of Christian and Muslim terminology interchangeably looks beyond religious ideology to explore the social nuances of religious conviction.

The son explains his dedication through the pursuit of Christian asceticism and his Islamic Jihad "fight" against injustice. In the end he proclaims in church choir like music that he has become "alive" through his defeat by the world. The world here, signifying the cultural outlook towards the perceived moral corruption of those outside religious institutions.

The Censer

The censer in Orthodox Christianity was appropriated from pagan tradition. Dogmatically the censer is a form of offering. Within the broader tradition, mystic theory is that the incense rising from the censer represents angels and that these angels rise to heaven bringing up our prayers with them.

Traditions like this are often those which capture popular imagination. This Gif struck me as very symbolic of the monumental impact that extra-dogmatic knowledge, be it societal, or social, or cultural can have on our personal perception of "divinity."
Your little one has grown old, Mom
He is no longer little, Mom
He has left your cradle in order to know
But I really did not know
I bought the fur of the lambs
I tried on the monks' cowl
I wore the armor of the knights

But I swear, Mom
I have fooled only my mirror
Even in the devil's dress
I did not realize the meaning of my life
And for my life this is my tragedy
Home
And yet there is a time, one feels
To strike and not to speak.
When Reason with Unreason deals,
It is Reason which is weak.
Social order and censorship

The events of of English 2017 at uwo inspired me to look into censorship. Many articles have been written on the matter and the ensuing string of events:

Questions to be asked:
When is it fine to use controversial language?
How much value should be place on student comfort in educational institutions?
What is the proper consequence for using such language
For pointers on controversial language- look to the most polarizing figure of our age- The Donald
